I Already Have A Website…And Now I Need Another One?
It may sound strange to hear that the website that you have is not enough to engage your customers and prospects. For many businesses who have invested hundreds (sometimes thousands) of dollars in putting together a website that works, it almost sounds like ‘hype’ to say that you need a second website. Although there are certain expenditures that are only ‘hype’, meaning that you could profit just as well without them, a mobile website is not one of them.
You probably don’t need a mountain of statistics to tell you that people are now spending more time on their mobile phones, than they have in years past. You also know that the key factor that has changed all of that is internet accessibility. In other words, the mobile phones (and other mobile devices like tablets and IPads) are capable of giving people access to the internet. Therefore, instead of waiting until they get to their home computer or until they get to work; they visit the websites that they want to access while on their mobile device.
Unfortunately, a website that displays perfectly on a computer screen, does not display well on a mobile device. Even worse, the website that is so easy to navigate with a mouse or a keyboard is impossible to navigate while using a mobile device.
Moreover, certain buttons and links can be un-clickable when visited from this same mobile device. The best test is to take is to use your own Smartphone, IPad or Tablet (or that of a friend) and visit your current business website. If you haven’t done this recently from one of the mobile devices that people commonly use, the results will probably surprise you.
In observing your website you should consider the following:
- If I were on the go, would my website be simple enough to access and find what I want easily? Would it be easy for me to make the decision to buy?
- Is it easy for people to find my contact information, my exact location and other relevant business details?
- Would accessing my business website frustrate me?
If accessing your own website is frustrating to you when looking at it from a mobile device; it is very likely that it would be frustrating to customers and prospects also. However, your customers and prospects are likely to move on quickly to look for a website where they can easily find their answers or resources.
There are solutions that you can implement to provide visitors with a simple version of your website that they would see when accessing it from their mobile device. However, all solutions are not created equal in terms of what they do to help you to market effectively. Having a website redesigned is easy to do, but having it redesigned for marketing purposes on mobile platforms is more involved.
